Dialogue - Pol Andreu
Two
teachers are discussing the rights and wrongs of Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) as a school subject. Write down their conversation.
Teacher 1: Excuse
me! We should talk about ICT classes.
Teacher 2: Tell
me! I don’t have too much time…
Teacher 1: Last
night I was surfing the Internet and I saw an article about modern technologies.
It explains how damaging are these on young minds and how these effects on pupils’
development.
Teacher 2: It sounds
curious! But by the way you have said it I suppose isn’t such a positive article.
What does it say?
Teacher 1: You’re
right! It exposes the big amount of time that young people spend using these
technologies and how unhealthy is being exposed during a long period of time. Also,
the article concludes that families and teachers should act on that with the
objective of improving our pupils’ mental development.
Teacher 2: Really?
I wasn’t expecting that… I had heard about it, but actually I wasn’t conscious
about how damaging were these.
Teacher 1: So, I
have a proposal… I’ve been thinking and I consider we might modify our subject.
We could either change the way how we use electronic devices or we could remove
it from the school.
Teacher 2: I
agree your proposal, but we must keep the students’ education in mind. Nowadays,
technologies are the power of the world and in a few years all the things that
you can see right now will be working with some type of technology.
Teacher 1: Oh, that’s
a good point I hadn’t considered! As I see it’s an interesting topic, I think
that we should gather this afternoon to talk about it.
